Description: Maya Angelou once said, ‘If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.’ As a mark of celebration on the year of the Sesquicentennial Jubilee of Loreto’s presence in Lucknow, the students of St. Agnes’ and Loreto Convent, Lucknow organized a walkathon on 28th January 2023. The enthusiastic students, walked from the premises of Loreto Convent to GPO park, holding placards strewn with slogans related to women's empowerment. After reaching the park, the students of both schools performed a Street Play, where they beautifully presented the grave situations of the society, where women are still looked down upon, including denial of education, sexual harassment, domestic violence, and child marriage. The play presented these problems with a lot of humor which surely acted as an agent of social change. A huge crowd was attracted by the students and the onlookers praised and applauded the performances. The event came to an end with the students walking back to Loreto Convent. The two schools’ students considered it their responsibility to voice out these issues, especially since their institution was founded by a valiant and fearless Nun, the most venerable Mary Ward, who always said, ‘Women in time to come will do much’.
