A momentous and  grace-filled event took place in Spain on 4th November, 2025, marking the official merger of the two branches of the Mary Ward family — the Congregation of Jesus (CJ) and the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM). This historic union, long prayed for and lovingly prepared, was celebrated through a solemn Eucharistic Celebration that brought together sisters from across the world, representing both congregations and all provinces. The celebration was held at the Basilica of Loyola, a place deeply significant in the Ignatian tradition which both congregations share. The majestic setting of the basilica, with its golden altars and sacred atmosphere, reflected the joy, reverence, and unity of this historic occasion. The Eucharist was presided over by priests of the Jesuit order, whose spiritual heritage has guided both branches since their beginnings. The liturgy was marked by symbols of unity and thanksgiving. Representatives from different countries carried banners and portraits of Mary Ward, the foundress, along with signs depicting the global presence of both congregations — now one. Hymns of praise, prayers of gratitude, and readings that reflected Mary Ward’s vision of “one and the same institute” filled the air with emotion and hope. The sight of CJ and IBVM sisters standing side by side at the altar beautifully embodied the fulfillment of Mary Ward’s dream, once considered impossible, now realized in faith and love.

The Mass concluded with words of deep gratitude and joy from the leaders of both congregations, who affirmed their shared mission of living Mary Ward’s charism in today’s world. The gathering ended with a symbolic embrace of unity and a resounding hymn celebrating the oneness of the Mary Ward family. Following the Eucharistic celebration, the sisters joined in fellowship and rejoicing, united in spirit and mission as one congregation — carrying forward the legacy of their foundress with renewed strength and faith. This historic Eucharist in Spain was not just a ceremony, but a testimony to the enduring power of faith, perseverance, and unity — a new chapter in the shared journey of the Mary Ward family across the world.
