Description:

For the past five years, St. Agnes’ Model United Nations (SAMUN) has ignited the passion of young leaders, transforming them into catalysts for meaningful change. This year’s edition was particularly significant, as it marked the shift of the conference to an offline format after several years of virtual sessions. Guided by the motto "Audere est facere – to dare is to do," SAMUN has evolved into a distinguished platform that empowers students to tackle global issues with insight, courage, and diplomacy.

The Quinquennium edition of SAMUN welcomed over 200 delegates, representing some of the most respected educational institutions, including La Martiniere College, La Martiniere Girls’ College, Loreto Convent, Cathedral School, Christ Church College, Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, among others. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation and energy as students arrived, ready to engage in thought-provoking discourse and collaboration.

The opening ceremony was a dignified affair that set the tone for the days ahead. The event was graced by Ms. Yukta Meena, an alumnus of St. Agnes’ Loreto Day School and MNNIT Allahabad, who is an IFS Officer having qualified the UPSC exam, serving as the Chief Guest. Her erudite words inspired all. Although unable to attend in person, Sister Janet Palafox, a revered Sister of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary and NGO representative to the United Nations, and Ms. Itisha Jain, an IPS Officer and another alumnus of St. Agnes’ Loreto Day School, contributed powerful video messages that stirred the spirits of both students and educators. The presence of the Principal of Loreto Convent and Sister Amia added a further note of distinction and encouragement to the proceedings.

This year’s SAMUN featured a broad and ambitious range of committees that reflected real-world complexities and pressing global issues. Delegates took part in sessions simulating the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Security Council, the Financial Action Task Force, the Bretton Woods Conference, the International Organization for Migration, and the Indian Lok Sabha. A particularly engaging feature was the Joint Crisis Committee, which portrayed both the Indian and Pakistani Cabinets, challenging delegates to think critically and act swiftly in high-stakes scenarios. Meanwhile, the International Press brought the event to life through the vibrant lens of journalism, caricature, and photography, documenting the spirit and intensity of the conference with creativity and flair.

Under the guidance of a skilled and experienced Executive Board, delegates honed essential skills in public speaking, negotiation, critical thinking, and diplomacy—skills that are increasingly vital in today’s interconnected and complex world. SAMUN also upheld its foundational commitment to gender equality, providing a space where young women were empowered to emerge as articulate, confident leaders, ready to shape the world around them.

Beyond formal committee sessions, the conference fostered a strong sense of camaraderie. Delegates connected across schools, backgrounds, and ideas, forming friendships and networks that extended beyond the event itself. The vibrant exchange of perspectives created an atmosphere of unity, where intellectual curiosity and mutual respect thrived.

SAMUN 2025 stood as a celebration of youth-led diplomacy, thoughtful debate, and visionary leadership. With every speech delivered, every resolution debated, and every moment shared, the conference reaffirmed its role as a beacon of excellence, guiding the next generation toward a more just, informed, and collaborative future.
