Description: The video opens with a symbolic image of Venerable Mary Ward, whose vision inspired a mission that would one day reach India. Yet, the true narrative centres on the pioneering Loreto Sisters who travelled from Ireland in 1841 to establish the foundations of what is now the Loreto Indian Province. Arriving first in Kolkata, the sisters began their work with the establishment of Loreto House, which soon became a beacon of education for girls. As their mission grew, more institutions were founded—Loreto Entally, Loreto Sealdah, Loreto Dharamtala, Loreto Bowbazar, and Loreto Middleton Row—each one strengthening their commitment to quality education and service. The Loreto presence extended beyond West Bengal as well. Schools were established in Lucknow, Delhi, Shimla, Asansol, Ranchi, Doranda, Shillong, and Panighatta, forming a wide network dedicated to academic excellence, character formation, and social upliftment. Each school carries the same core values of inclusivity, courage, and justice that shaped the first foundation in Kolkata. Today, this network has grown into an educational and social mission that includes not only schools but also social service centres, Rainbow Homes, and mission outreach programmes. These initiatives reflect the enduring Loreto spirit—offering dignity to every child, supporting the underprivileged, and extending compassionate service to those in need. The Rainbow Homes, in particular, stand as a testament to fearless love, providing shelter, education, and support to girls from vulnerable backgrounds. Social service centres and mission communities continue to work at the grassroots, ensuring that the Loreto legacy remains both relevant and transformative. After more than 184 years, the Loreto institutions in India continue to uphold the ideals of their pioneers. Their legacy lives on in their schools across the country and in the countless lives shaped by their dedication to education, empowerment, and service.
